3 May 2012: Dublin. Ireland. The Asia Trade Forum (ATF) delivered a sector-focused seminar in Dublin on 2nd May for Irish exporters interested in winning business in China. The event, attended by over 150 businesses from all over Ireland, included targeted breakout sessions focusing on ICT/Life Science, Food/Retail as well as Engineering, Energy & Infrastructure.

Speaking at the event, Minister Ciaran Cannon, T.D. highlighted that, as Minister of State for Training and Skills, the government supported the ATF in its call for an improvement in Ireland’s understanding and knowledge of China, its culture and its market.

 Japan is one of the most populated countries in the world. It is located in the Pacific Ocean to the East of China and Korea. During the past 30 years, Japan has achieved tremendous economic advances in technology and automation and its consumer brands lead the world in terms of recognition, quality and sophistication. Japan is now the 3rd largest economy in the world.

Japanese society is very structured along hierarchical lines, with significant emphasis placed on harmony, group membership and adherence to norms. This respect for authority and rank has influenced business practices. Long term, personal and business relationships, based on mutual benefits are often more of a priority than the western, short term economic focus that is the norm in Europe and the US.

Japan has suffered much as a result of the March 2011 earthquake and Fukushima nuclear accident, short term negative effects are obvious however the people and country have a great capacity for resilience and rebounding.

  • 18 per cent of sampled hotels now have their website translated into another language compared with only 8 per cent in 2010
  • Two-thirds of five-star hotels and 87 per cent of four-star hotels still have no foreign language website
  • 76 per cent of hotels in Leinster and 85 per cent of hotels in Connacht have no multilingual online presence
  • Most translation quality is still inconsistent and poor

Dublin, Ireland, Thursday, 15th December 2011: More Irish Hotels are catering for non-English-speaking tourists, although overall website translation activity remains low, according to a report released today by global communications provider, Cipherion Translations. The research, which examined the websites of 350 hotels on the island of Ireland, reveals that just 18 per cent have translated their website into another overseas language. This compares with only 8 per cent in 2010.
